Meet Lynn
I’ve been proud to call Marathon home for more than 35 years. It’s where my wife and I raised our two children, Kaite and Seth, who have both chosen to build their own lives here as well. Our family has since grown to include a wonderful son-in-law, Austin, and our first grandchild, Silas, making our roots in this community even deeper. Marathon isn’t just where we live—it’s where our family’s story continues to grow.
As an active member of this community, I’ve always been committed to its growth and well-being. With a deep commitment to our city’s future, I hope to continue serving as an elected member of the City Council.
Committed to Our Community
Hi, I’m Lynn Landry, Marathon isn’t just where I live—it’s where my roots are.
I earned a B.S. in Business Administration and attended college on a basketball scholarship, which taught me the value of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance—qualities that continue to guide me today. For over 30 years, I worked in the construction industry, gaining first hand experience with the challenges and opportunities that come with growth and development in our area.
Community involvement has always been important to me. I served on the Marathon Youth Club board and coached youth sports for many years. I am a founding member of the Mid-Keys Booster Club and still active fundraising for sports and other organizations. My Wife and I have the smoothie booth at the Marathon Seafood Festival, (Thanks to the Marathon Chamber of Commerce and The Organized Fisherman of Florida), that's allowed us to raise money for youth organizations in the community. The last eight years for the Marathon Middle/High School Theater.
I served on the Planning Commission for nine years. Where I gained knowledge of the Comprehensive plan and LDR's (land development regulations). For the last three years, I’ve had the honor of serving as a City Council member. With that experience, there’s no learning curve—I’m already up and running, and I know how to get things done. I understand the issues locals face, and I’m more prepared than ever to keep pushing forward and making sure Marathon continues to thrive.
As a small business owner and vacation rental operator, I also understand the unique challenges that come with balancing tourism and residential life. That’s why I’ve been a strong supporter of enforcing vacation rental ordinances. I believe our guests should be welcomed—but never at the expense of the quality of life for our residents.
I love this community and the people who make it special. I’m ready and excited to continue serving Marathon with integrity, experience, and a deep commitment to our future.
Promises Made. Results Delivered.
Vacation Rental Enforcement
We added two new code officers to improve enforcement of our vacation rental rules. We switched from using the code board to a special magistrate system, which makes enforcement more consistent and fair. The goal is always compliance—and when fines are needed, they help get us there.
Affordable Housing
We fought hard to bring back 300 affordable housing units to Marathon. More than half of those units are already built and available for rent, helping more families find a place to call home.
Workshops
We added an extra community workshop each month so we can keep everyone informed and involved. These sessions are a great way to learn, ask questions, and have your voice heard.
City as a Service
We’ve been focusing on improving customer service across the city. That means providing service training for staff, filling open positions, and making sure you get faster responses when you reach out. We’re also working on a new city website and upgrading the permitting portal to make things easier for everyone.
Accomplishments
Taxes
Rolled back taxes three years in a row, while increasing levels of service.
Public Information Officer (PIO)
Ensuring timely, factual communication for our community.
More transparency
First Time Homebuyers Program
Helped raise the first-time homebuyer loan amount up to $20,000 that is funded by building right transfer fees.
Building Permit Allocation System (BPAS)
Fought and lobbied in Tallahassee to secure more BPAS allocations (Building Permit Allocation System), helping us manage slow, responsible growth and protect the city from takings cases.
DOT Right of Ways
Took over the DOT right of ways across the city, that allows us to better maintain Marathon’s main corridor along US-1—making it a place we can all be proud of.
Fire Department Improvements
Hired a new fire chief and, for the first time in seven years, have a fully staffed fire department. We also introduced new safety standards to better protect everyone and secured state funding to help get a new fire/rescue boat.
Community Events Committee
Helped create a new community events committee focused on bringing neighbors together and making Marathon an even stronger, more connected community.
Residential Lighting Ordinance
Sponsored a common-sense residential lighting ordinance requiring downlighting to keep light contained on each property and eliminate unnecessary light spillage.
Forward Together: A Vision for Marathon’s Future
Moving Forward with the City of Marathon, my priority is to continue delivering the city as a service for Marathon residents and visitors. To do this effectively, we must maintain a focus on staff training and ensure we are appropriately staffed to provide the highest quality of service.
At this time, there are no new affordable housing allocations available. We must actively lobby the State of Florida during the next legislative cycle to secure additional affordable housing allocations, that will allow multiple units to be built, with an emphasis on workforce housing.
Regarding the Building Permit Allocation System (BPAS), the state legislature has passed a new law granting the Florida Keys and the City of Marathon additional allocations to support controlled growth over the next 10 years. WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED THESE ALLOCATIONS! This law may be challenged, and it is essential that the City remain engaged to protect these allocations and reduce the risk of takings.
The deep well settlement remains a critical project. We must keep it on schedule and continue pursuing external funding sources—particularly state and federal grants—to reduce reliance on local tax dollars and fees.
Finally, we must continue enforcing our vacation rental ordinances through diligent code compliance. While compliance is always the ultimate goal, enforcement has also generated revenue that helps offset ad valorem taxes and supports city services.
